Opening Night a Success

By Ben Antosofsky

The TABC STORM varsity basketball team took on the Waterbury Wolfpack October 30th, with an amazing come back from behind win, for a final score of 58-44. To kick off pre-game activities, student volunteers barbecued hot dogs and hamburgers in the back parking lot, and student vendors gave out free TABC Storm dri-fits, in a selection of blue and yellow. Students packed the gym well before game time chanting for the STORM and getting psyched for the season opener. One by one the players were introduced as they lined up across the court, and the spirited crowd sang both the Israeli and American National Anthems

The game began with two technical free throws for TABC because of a gear violation by Waterbury. TABC got off to a relatively slow start and fell behind a few points, but stayed with Waterbury throughout the first half. During half-time, students played bubble soccer, which was more about destroying your opponent than scoring a goal. TABC came out strong in the second half and jumped out to a lead. TABC sustained this lead until the end of the game, where they beat Waterbury by a comfortable 14 points. Jonathan Haberman led TABC in scoring with 17 points and Alex Ostrin finished with 11.
